The much-anticipated Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video this week, and audience theories has been widespread.
Season 1 introduces a diverse group of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Could a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the showrunner commented earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by the production companies, which finance the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season moves, and how much of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a few fans create a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
